San Elijo Lagoon in Spring Part Two

As I stood watching the blue Teal on a fresh water pond a heron landed opposite me – a Green Heron! Perched so close but blocked by branches – and I didn’t want to move too much in case it flew away. I knew there is a breeding pair at San Elijo but this was the first time I had seen one!

After watching the Green heron for some time I continued my search for the Hooded Mergansers that were still

at San Elijo lagoon.

In front of the visitor center a cormorant was drying his wings

Ten I saw them – One male and two female Hooded mergansers swimming towards me.

The male climbed up onto the bank and began to preen. I was delighted to have seen so many nice birds on my first spring walk at San Elijo Lagoon.

  1. Good post. I learn something new and challenging on websites I stumbleupon on a daily basis.
It will always be exciting to read through articles from other writers and use
a little something from their sites.
