Aggressive Great Blue Heron

Late yesterday afternoon in the fading light at San Elijo Lagoon I stopped by for a quick visit. I was rewarded by some wonderful Great Blue Heron behavior.  I was watching a gull eating a fish on the mudflat when a Heron flew in and made some threat gestures towards the gull.  I was able to take a few photos of this aggressive behavior until the heron relaxed and started to hunt for food in the shallows.  The Heron looks really blue in the evening light.

  2. Blue Herons are beautiful and the pictures show her lovely colour. Many times they seem to materialize from the bluish hue of the water!.

  3. The wispy feathers on his neck really show up! Neat shots. ~SueBee
