Parker River National Wildlife Refuge

I went to Plum Island last weekend  – the Parker River National Wildlife refuge.  Wonderful to see the ecosystems on this barrier island. It was a bit early for many migrants, but as I am still excited by almost any eastern species the birding was fun  – a great day.  I took a few photos but could only manage a distant shot of the bird of the day for me  – An American Bittern.

  1. Doesn’t he just look like a bunch of reeds! (At least I hope that’s him – 4th pic down – not a bunch of reeds) Who’s the guy in the eight pic down? And is that a thrush in the bottom pic? It is so difficult to get close in this sort of terrain isn’t it.
